This item is an antique Swiss ladies' fob pocket watch dating from the late Victorian to Edwardian era (circa 1895–1910)

The watch features a highly distinctive, romantic heart-shaped aperture framing a white porcelain or enamel dial with classic Roman numerals. The area surrounding the heart is heavily embellished with intricate gold foil and gilt scrollwork overlay, a technique popular in continental Europe during the early 1900s to make small ladies' timepieces look more decorative and jewellery-like.

The case is made of silver. The back cover is heavily hand-engraved with an Art Nouveau floral and foliate scroll design surrounding a central "vacant cartouche" (the shield-shaped smooth space in the centre meant for engraving the original owner's initials)

When the back dust cover is opened, the Movement/Internal Mechanism reveals a Swiss mechanical keyless wind movement with a cylinder escapement. Its a Keyless Wind, he grooved gold-toned crown at the top is used to wind the watch. Next to the crown on the upper rim, there is a tiny button (pin). To change the time, you press and hold that pin down while rotating the crown. At the Cylinder Escapement you can see the characteristic bridge layout (often called a lepine style bar movement) typical of late 19th-century Swiss watchmaking.

Because of its small size and decorative nature, this was considered a fob watch or pendant watch. Rather than being carried inside a vest pocket like a large man's pocket watch, a lady would traditionally wear this pinned to her blouse using an ornamental watch brooch or suspended around her neck as a necklace charm.
